First Day: Arriving in Tokyo

After an 11 hour flight, we finally touched down in Tokyo, at the Narita Airport. We travelled by train to Ginza (still part of Tokyo). Went to a beautiful hotel, marble everywhere, polite staff. We were in the wrong hotel. Same company, totally different part of town. Well, that was a let down.

After settling in we took a walk and found a nice, low-key restaurant.

They had a lot of Sake.

So we had a lot of Sake, and some pretty good food.

This, above, was deep fried fish (tempura with spices)

Below is the most tender venison I have ever tried.  I don’t speak Japanese very well so the secret is safe.  I don’t know how they did it, but it was great.

Below is a large clam cooked on a grill with only a light bit of Sake.   It was one of the sweetest clams I have tasted.  Of course, it could have been because we were starving and only had plane food for the whole day.

Day one, arrival. So far, so good.
